After School Kerr (ASK)
Kerr Elementary PTO offers an after-school enrichment program one day a week for 5 weeks–typically from the end of January through February.
ASK classes are nonrefundable unless there is a medical need for the student to leave the class. Individual classes are subject to cancellation due to weather or instructor illness. There will be one (total) make up class dates offered for those types of cancellations.
Monday
Skills for Girls Grades 4-5: Skills for Girls class will be a fun way to make friends, feel good, and have fun! We will play games, do some art, and make a bracelet! Friendships and life can be challenging at times. Together, we’ll learn and master skills that can help with stress, friends, feelings. Led by a licensed social worker.
Chess Grades Grades K-5: Chess is a popular activity in schools and participants will learn a lot in classes not to mention have fun and make friends in a club atmosphere with other students. Students will spend the first part of class learning about chess concept, analyze a master game and other strategies. The second part of class students will play against each other in a tournament style of play.
Bracelet Making Grades K-2: Students will tap into their creativity as they design and craft their own bracelets using colorful beads and string. This hands-on class helps young students develop fine motor skills while exploring patterns, colors and simple crafting techniques like knotting and stringing. Children will create fun friendship bracelets they can wear, share or give as gifts. The class provides a relaxed, encouraging space where students can express themselves, try new ideas and enjoy the process of making something unique.
Fun and Games on Stage Grades K-5: This workshop is designed for kids who want to have a great time “playing” on stage without the focus on a final performance. Through the use of theater games and improvisation activities, students will have the opportunity to try their hand at character development, dialect work, and thinking on their feet. Props, costumes, and music will play a role in these activities. This class will help students develop problem-solving strategies in a fun and creative atmosphere. No prior experience is required – this class is a great opportunity for those who have not been in a theater class in the past. For students with some theater background, this class will help develop skills in quick-thinking, improvisation, and working with a smaller group setting.
Brixology Grades 3-5: Mad Science presents – Using LEGO bricks, children build a different engineering-themed project in each class. They explore engineering fields including mechanical, structural, aerospace, nautical, and bioengineering. Using critical thinking, cooperation, and creative problem-solving, they test and improve their creations.
Tuesday
Yoga Grades K-2: You will spend your time with a certified yoga teacher, life coach and breathwork facilitator excited to guide the class through fun yoga poses that build balance and flexibility. During your time together, we will explore engaging breathing techniques, try fun movement challenges and even complete a yoga obstacle course! We will use our imaginations for a creative visualization meditation that helps us relax and connect mind and body. Bring a yoga mat if you like, although not required!
Wednesday
Taekwondo Grades K-5: “Hiyah” –“Pow”-“Kablam”-“Kihaa”- however you say it, prepare to have some fun! Kick off your shoes & join us for a fun & exciting martial arts training session like none other. Join 6th degree black belt Master Brianne Norris as we strength our minds & bodies. Parents, your child will learn discipline, respect & the keys to staying safe at home, school, with friends & anywhere their feet may take them. Kids, prepare to yell, kick, punch & defend yourself all while having fun with your friends and classmates!!

No Bake Baking Grades 3-5: You will spend your time with a foodie and lover of all things creative in the kitchen. We will introduce the kiddos to get involved in a no-bake baking class. Each week, we will explore a brand new no-bake recipe that’s delicious and engaging. Because everything we make requires no oven and no stove, the kids can safely take the lead while learning real kitchen skills such as mixing, measuring, flavor-paring, decorating and getting creative with their own ideas. This class will not be allergy friendly as our recipes may contain certain allergens or have cross contamination.
Student Led Creative Skit Class Grades 2-4: This class encourages teamwork and creativity while gaining confidence in performing in front of a small audience/peers. It will also teach basic story structure from beginning, middle to end. Each week will be a different theme for skit ideas. Activities will include music, props, craft making and logs of movement for all that energy!
Crazy Chemworks Grades K-2: Mad Science presents – Welcome to the world of chemistry! Children make gooey slime, experiment with different reactions and learn to use the tools that chemists use. Polymers and catalysts are only two of the fascinating concepts young scientists explore in this thrilling trip through the chemistry lab!

Board Games Grades 3-5: Learn and play exciting board games with your friends and classmates! Become a Magical Athlete, defeat other monsters to become the King of Tokyo, build the tallest tower in Bandu and More!
Baton Grades 2-5: Join us for a fun, high-energy baton program led by an instructor from the Sensations Marching Unit! Boys and Girls in grades 2-5 will learn the basics of baton handling, beginner twirls and coordination skills while working together to build a short exciting routine. No experience is necessary- batons will be provided for students to borrow during class. If your child would like their own baton to use throughout the course and keep afterward, one my be purchased for $30. Come ready to have fun, try something new and learn a unique skill with the Sensations!
Music Grades 3-5: Welcome to our “School of Rock” inspired after school music program! Over the next five weeks, your child will explore various instruments, learn the foundations of rhythm and melody, rehearse as a real band and grow in confidence, team work and comfortability playing together as a group. No experience needed-just enthusiasm and creativity!
